This is my friends perspective of the good Samaritan.
My perspective of the lawyers
perspective of the Good Samaritan
Oh, Hello there, you may not
recognize me, you see I play a small part in a really big story. Now before I
get you confused, I am a Lawyer and at this moment I am about to meet Jesus and
question him. Ahh.... there I go getting ahead of my self. Why don't we start
at the beginning.....
I didn't really know what to
expect when I came to this gathering. I had it in my head that I was going to
try to test Jesus in the law. Jesus, who had been speaking with his disciples
for a few moments turned away from them. Me, being a lawyer and used to getting
strait to the point that exactly what I did. Standing up with ease. I
approached Jesus confidently “Master” I said once I was within earshot “What
shall I do to inherit eternal life?” I couldn't help that I was skeptical, this
man was said to be the son of God, again the the lawyer in me was coming out.
As I looked into the eyes one of authority and confidence as the said “What is
written in the law? How readest thou?” Feeling pride well up inside me I puffed
out my chest, being a lawyer certainly had its privileges. I, for one had
poured over the scrolls, learning for years! Drawing myself up to my full
highth I said “Thou shalt love the lord thy God with all thy soul, and with all
thy strength, and with all thy mind;and love thy neighbor as thy self”. Jesus
looked at me strait in the eye and said “Thou hast answered right, this do,and
thou shalt live”. This wasn't going I thought it would at all, I was trying to
get the upper hand and make him look bad and he was treating me with kindness
and respect! Evasively after wracking my brain I said “And who is my neighbor?”
I could tell just by looking at his expression that he had an answer for my
poorly asked question. Once He started talking right away I realized
that this was a parable. “A certain man went down from Jerusalem to Jericho ,
and fell among thieves, which stripped him of his raiment, and wounded him, and
departed, leaving him half dead. And by chance there came down a certain priest
that way: and when he saw him, he passed by on the other side. And likewise a
Levite, when he was at the place, came and looked on him, and passed by on the
other side. But a certain Samaritan, as he journeyed, came where he was and
when he saw him, he had compassion on him. And went to him, and bound up his
wounds, pouring in oil and wine, and set him on his own beast, and brought him
to am inn, and took care of him. And on the morrow when he departed, he took
out two pence and gave them to the host and said unto him, Take care of him;
and whatsoever thou spendest more, when I come again, I will repay thee.” As I
was still taking all of this in He continued “Which now of these three,
thinkest thou was neighbor unto him that fell among the thieves?” I immediately
answered and said “He that showed mercy on him”. “Go and do likewise” said
Jesus, and with that he gathered up his disciples and left. Me on the other
hand, my small part in this big story is over.
